Reconcile shared fence posts at adjacent run ends.
Are two run endpoints actually the same specified post?
Use the matching calculator
Use this decision sequence
- Count each independent straight run using the specified maximum spacing.
- Identify the actual shared corner or end posts from the supplied layout.
- Deduct shared posts once and add separately specified gate supports.
- Keep board quantity and connection count tied to their own measured layout.
Keep the quantities distinct
| Quantity or assumption | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Independent run ends | Initially counted for each run. |
| Shared post | One physical post serving two entered endpoints. |
| Gate support | A separate supplied addition, not automatically a shared deduction. |
Worked comparison
Two illustrative 6 m runs each using supplied 3 m maximum spacing need three posts apiece when independent. If their adjacent end is one shared corner post, the combined count is 3+3−1 = 5. If the plan also specifies two additional gate supports, it becomes seven. The shared-post deduction depends on the physical layout, not on the presence of a corner label alone.
Check before using the estimate
The tool counts a supplied fence layout; it does not select spacing, wind resistance, post sections or gate support design.
All dimensions, product properties, prices and specifications in this example are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Use the values from your measured plan, selected product data sheet and supplier quote. This guide does not choose construction specifications or certify safety.
