MEASUREMENTS AND PURCHASE DECISIONS

Keep continuous strip lengths separate from station-to-station measurements.

Are repeated strip segments measured over disjoint portions of the same run?

Use the matching calculator

Use this decision sequence

  1. Identify start and finish boundaries for every specified segment.
  2. Use differences between successive stations to obtain each segment length.
  3. Assign its own cross-section and record any separately specified steps.
  4. Check that adjacent lengths neither leave an unintended gap nor include the same station interval twice.

Keep the quantities distinct

Quantity or assumptionHow to use it
Station readingsPositions along a reference line.
Segment lengthsDifferences between successive positions.
Repeated countsCopies of a geometry, not extra distance along the same run.

Worked comparison

Stations at 0 m, 2 m and 5 m describe lengths of 2 m and 3 m. Treating the readings 2 and 5 as segment lengths counts 7 m instead of 5 m. With an illustrative supplied 0.2 m² constant section, the correct volume is 1 m³ rather than 1.4 m³. Different sections must be applied to their own station intervals.

Check before using the estimate

Section dimensions and construction boundaries must come from the existing plan; no foundation sizing is provided.

All dimensions, product properties, prices and specifications in this example are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Use the values from your measured plan, selected product data sheet and supplier quote. This guide does not choose construction specifications or certify safety.
