Use installed intersections rather than spare purchased boards for fastener takeoff.
Should every spare purchased board receive a full fixing count?
Use the matching calculator
Use this decision sequence
- Count the installed board rows and supplied support intersections.
- Use the fixing count already specified for each intersection.
- Keep extra purchased boards or offcuts separate from installed material.
- Apply any explicitly chosen fastener allowance and round the combined count to compatible packs.
Keep the quantities distinct
| Quantity or assumption | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Installed rows | Generate the specified connection positions. |
| Spare board purchase | Does not automatically add installed connections. |
| Fastener pack | A purchasing unit after the connection count. |
Worked comparison
An illustrative installed layout has ten rows crossing five supplied support lines, with two specified fasteners per intersection. Its count is 10×5×2 = 100 before allowance. Purchasing two spare boards does not turn that installed layout into twelve rows or increase it to 120. Fastener allowance is a separate supplied purchasing input.
Check before using the estimate
No screw length, support spacing, fixing pattern or structural adequacy is selected.
All dimensions, product properties, prices and specifications in this example are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Use the values from your measured plan, selected product data sheet and supplier quote. This guide does not choose construction specifications or certify safety.
