Include both end stiles in a decorative wall layout.
Why does a row of three panel openings need four vertical strips?
Use the matching calculator
Use this decision sequence
- Measure the run between the stated outside ends of the decorative arrangement.
- Use openings plus one for end and intermediate stiles.
- Deduct all stile widths before sharing the remaining run among equal openings.
- Deduct specified top and bottom rails separately from the vertical opening height.
Keep the quantities distinct
| Quantity or assumption | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Openings | The clear decorative spaces. |
| Stiles | One at each end and between adjacent openings. |
| Continuous rails | Run outside-to-outside in this supplied model. |
Worked comparison
An illustrative 4 m run with three openings and 0.1 m stiles has four stiles taking 0.4 m total. Each clear opening is (4−0.4)/3 = 1.2 m. Counting only three stiles would predict 1.2333 m openings and leave the intended geometry unreconciled. The decorative opening calculation does not determine wall framing.
Check before using the estimate
