Internal drywall tape length is not the wall perimeter.
Which sheet boundaries actually become taped internal joints?
Use the matching calculator
Use this decision sequence
- Use the installed aligned grid dimensions and sheet orientation.
- Count internal column boundaries across the surface height.
- Count internal row boundaries across its width.
- Add separately measured included corners and the entered allowance before roll rounding.
Keep the quantities distinct
| Quantity or assumption | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Outer perimeter | Different from internal sheet seams. |
| Grid boundaries | Columns minus one and rows minus one. |
| Corners | A separate supplied length in this model. |
Worked comparison
An illustrative 4 m by 3 m surface uses a grid of 1 m-wide by 1.5 m-high sheets: four columns and two rows. Internal vertical seams total 3×3 = 9 m, and horizontal seams total 1×4 = 4 m, giving 13 m before corners and allowance. Its 14 m outer perimeter is a different geometric quantity.
Check before using the estimate
Staggered layouts, opening returns, omitted joints and rated assemblies require their applicable specified takeoff.
