MEASUREMENTS AND PURCHASE DECISIONS
Separate form contact area from concrete volume.
Which surfaces belong in a form-material order?
Use the matching calculator
Use this decision sequence
- List only faces that actually contact the concrete and need form material.
- Group identical faces by their width, height and count.
- Sum face area independently of concrete volume.
- Apply an explicit face-material allowance before converting to sheets or a quoted hire rate.
Keep the quantities distinct
| Quantity or assumption | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Concrete volume | Measures the filled three-dimensional quantity. |
| Form contact area | Measures selected two-dimensional faces. |
| Sheet purchase | Depends on layout and whole source sheets as well as area. |
Worked comparison
Four form faces are each 5 m wide and 1 m high. Net contact area is 20 m²; a 10% face-material allowance gives 22 m². This does not imply anything about concrete volume or bracing.
Check before using the estimate
Do not count an open top as a form face unless the supplied construction plan actually requires form material there.
All dimensions, product properties, prices and specifications in this example are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Use the values from your measured plan, selected product data sheet and supplier quote. This guide does not choose construction specifications or certify safety.
