Choose which concrete faces belong in form contact area.
Does a top surface automatically need a form-face quantity?
Use the matching calculator
Use this decision sequence
- List the actual form faces in your supplied method and plan.
- Measure each face using the dimensions it contacts.
- Exclude faces that have no form in that method, rather than including all box surfaces.
- Keep contact area separate from purchased board or panel area and any specified cutting loss.
Keep the quantities distinct
| Quantity or assumption | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Top finish area | Not automatically a formed face. |
| Side contact area | Can be a separate perimeter-by-depth takeoff. |
| Panel purchase area | Can exceed contact area because of cuts and stock formats. |
Worked comparison
For an illustrative 4 m by 3 m by 0.2 m component with only four side forms, contact area is 2×(4+3)×0.2 = 2.8 m². Including the 12 m² top face would raise that to 14.8 m² even though the stated method has no top form. The volume remains 2.4 m³ regardless of this form-face selection.
Check before using the estimate
Only count faces from the supplied construction method; the calculator does not choose a form system or supports.
All dimensions, product properties, prices and specifications in this example are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Use the values from your measured plan, selected product data sheet and supplier quote. This guide does not choose construction specifications or certify safety.
