Keep a gable wall triangle separate from a sloping roof face.
Why should a roof slope length not be used as gable wall height?
Use the matching calculator
Use this decision sequence
- Measure the rectangular wall portion up to the triangle base.
- Use the vertical rise of the supplied symmetric gable triangle.
- Deduct measured face openings from the combined planar wall area once.
- Keep sloping roof covering area and wall coating quantities separate.
Keep the quantities distinct
| Quantity or assumption | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Gable rise | Is a vertical triangle height. |
| Roof slope length | Follows a different surface. |
| Wall finish face | Combines a rectangle and a planar triangle. |
Worked comparison
For 4 m wall width, a 2 m rectangular height gives 8 m². A 1 m vertical gable rise adds 4×1/2 = 2 m². Deducting 1 m² measured openings leaves 9 m². The 2.236 m sloping edge length is useful as a boundary measurement but is not the vertical rise in the triangle-area calculation.
