MEASUREMENTS AND PURCHASE DECISIONS

How to measure and order: insulation material orders.

Which measurements and product data prevent quantity mistakes for this job?

Use the matching calculator

Use this decision sequence

  1. Measure each clear bay, layer or filled cavity separately. Record exclusions and whether material may be reused between bays.
  2. Use the selected batt dimensions, units per pack, layer-specific pack coverage or supplied density. Thickness is an input from your existing specification.
  3. Run each matching calculation and keep different products as separate purchase items.
  4. Check whole packs, stock remnants and delivery rounding before placing an order.

Keep the quantities distinct

Quantity or assumptionHow to use it
Measured needMeasure each clear bay, layer or filled cavity separately. Record exclusions and whether material may be reused between bays.
Product basisUse the selected batt dimensions, units per pack, layer-specific pack coverage or supplied density. Thickness is an input from your existing specification.
Purchase roundingWhole packs, rolls and stock lengths can exceed the exact material need.

Worked comparison

Ten 0.7 × 1.2 m bays have 8.4 m² of area. A pack of eight 0.6 × 1.2 m batts covers 5.76 m²: area rounding gives two packs. Two batts across each bay require twenty batts, or three packs, when cross-bay offcut reuse is excluded.

Check before using the estimate

The bay model does not optimize offcuts or select a suitable insulation system.

All dimensions, product properties, prices and specifications in this example are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Use the values from your measured plan, selected product data sheet and supplier quote. This guide does not choose construction specifications or certify safety.
