Treat net panel area as a lower bound, not a sheet layout.
Why can a feasible mixed-panel allocation use more sheets than total area suggests?
Use the matching calculator
Use this decision sequence
- List actual rectangular cut sizes after your specified trimming.
- Enter usable stock dimensions and the selected separation gap.
- State whether quarter-turn rotation is compatible with your product and grain.
- Read the rectangular allocation as one feasible placement rather than an optimum claim.
Keep the quantities distinct
| Quantity or assumption | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Net panel area | Provides a lower bound on purchased area. |
| Rectangular placement | Also depends on dimensions and orientation. |
| Optimal nesting | Needs a separate optimiser and a demonstrated solution. |
Worked comparison
One 1×2 m panel and two 1×1 m panels have 4 m² net area, equal to one 2×2 m sheet. With zero cutting gap, the displayed placement fits these three panels on one sheet. With a 10 mm gap, the exact width and length fits are lost and this allocation needs three sheets. Net area alone misses the separation constraint, while the method still does not prove an optimum for every other mixed layout.
Check before using the estimate
Do not interpret sheet count as a guaranteed minimum or a machine cutting procedure. Grain direction and cutting separation come from your own specifications. The example values are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Replace them with your measured plan, selected product information and actual quote where relevant.
All dimensions, product properties, prices and specifications in this example are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Use the values from your measured plan, selected product data sheet and supplier quote. This guide does not choose construction specifications or certify safety.
