MEASUREMENTS AND PURCHASE DECISIONS

Keep vertical route sections in a length takeoff.

Why can a plan-view route omit needed linear material?

Use the matching calculator

Use this decision sequence

  1. Record measured route points in one three-dimensional coordinate system.
  2. Insert extra points at bends instead of connecting around them invisibly.
  3. Add specified tails separately from the supplied route slack percentage.
  4. Check the physical route with your selected product requirements before ordering stock.

Keep the quantities distinct

Quantity or assumptionHow to use it
Plan-view distanceCan omit rises and drops.
Point-to-point chainCounts each measured spatial segment.
Slack and tailsAre entered additions, not a selected installation rule.

Worked comparison

A route running 3 m in one direction and 4 m in another has a 5 m straight spatial segment when those changes occur together. A subsequent 2 m vertical segment brings the measured chain to 7 m. A supplied 10% slack allowance and 1 m total end tails produce 8.7 m rather than a plan-only estimate.

Check before using the estimate

This measures a specified route. Cable sizing, conduit choice, bending limits and electrical installation requirements are excluded. The example values are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Replace them with your measured plan, selected product information and actual quote where relevant.

All dimensions, product properties, prices and specifications in this example are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Use the values from your measured plan, selected product data sheet and supplier quote. This guide does not choose construction specifications or certify safety.
