Distinguish countertop finish area from a slab purchase.
Does deducting a sink opening reduce the whole slab that must be bought?
Use the matching calculator
Use this decision sequence
- Split the measured countertop face into disjoint rectangles.
- Deduct only nonoverlapping cutouts contained in those sections.
- Record backsplashes as separate visible surfaces.
- Keep the net finish result separate from a supplier slab layout and fabrication quote.
Keep the quantities distinct
| Quantity or assumption | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Net face area | Can describe a coating or measured visible surface. |
| Gross slab blank | May still contain material later removed for openings. |
| Fabrication order | Also depends on seams, slab size and permitted cut layout. |
Worked comparison
A 2 m by 1 m face has 2 m² gross area. A 0.5 m² opening leaves 1.5 m² visible on top; a separate 2 m by 0.2 m backsplash adds 0.4 m², giving 1.9 m² finish area. This does not mean that a 1.9 m² slab blank can produce the specified pieces.
Check before using the estimate
No support, seam, appliance fit or structural decision is inferred from net surface area. The example values are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Replace them with your measured plan, selected product information and actual quote where relevant.
All dimensions, product properties, prices and specifications in this example are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Use the values from your measured plan, selected product data sheet and supplier quote. This guide does not choose construction specifications or certify safety.
