How to calculate flooring packs from room measurements.
How do measured area, allowance and pack coverage turn into a whole-pack order?
Measure the room before choosing an allowance
Split an irregular footprint into measured rectangles and add their areas. Exclude only surfaces your plan says will not receive this flooring. Doorways and recesses need explicit measurements; do not assume every opening has the same deduction.
Enter the same quantity basis in the calculator
The Flooring Calculator takes rectangular length and width, allowance and pack coverage. For an irregular room, calculate total net area with the Area Calculator or your measurement sheet; do not invent a rectangular footprint merely to fit the fields. Keep separate products as separate orders.
Why identical floor areas can need different orders
The two pack sizes in the example turn the same 13.2 m² requirement into six or seven packs. Product coverage must come from the selected pack label. An allowance is a supplied planning input, not a guarantee that every cutting layout will fit.
Build a quote from purchased packs
At an illustrative 30 currency units per pack, six packs cost 180 and seven cost 210. Compare the actual selected products with their own quotes, delivery and accessories. Unused coverage is arithmetic surplus; it is not a count of reusable boards.
Use the matching calculator
Use this decision sequence
- Measure the floor boundary in one unit system.
- Calculate the net area of each measured section.
- Apply the quantity allowance from your plan once.
- Divide by the selected product’s pack coverage and round up.
Keep the quantities distinct
| Quantity or assumption | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Net area | Measured surface before allowance. |
| Order area | Net area including the supplied allowance. |
| Purchased coverage | Whole packs multiplied by coverage per pack. |
Worked comparison
A rectangular 4 m × 3 m room is 12 m². An illustrative 10% allowance gives 13.2 m². At 2.2 m² per pack, six packs cover 13.2 m². If a different selected product covers 2 m² per pack, seven packs cover 14 m².
Check before using the estimate
