MEASUREMENTS AND PURCHASE DECISIONS

Include exposed panel edges in a furniture finish estimate.

When does two-face panel area still omit a paintable surface?

Use the matching calculator

Use this decision sequence

  1. List actual panel dimensions after any cuts and surface preparation.
  2. Choose which of the two faces receive the selected finish.
  3. Count exposed long and short edges instead of assuming every edge is visible.
  4. Keep the calculated surface area separate from coating coverage and whole-container rounding.

Keep the quantities distinct

Quantity or assumptionHow to use it
FacesDepend on length and width.
EdgesAlso depend on actual panel thickness.
Hidden jointsDo not automatically count as exposed finish surfaces.

Worked comparison

A 2 m by 1 m panel has 4 m² across both faces. At 20 mm actual thickness, all four edges add 0.02×(2+2+1+1) = 0.12 m². The complete exposed area is 4.12 m². If an edge is hidden in a joint, its area can be excluded instead of applying an unexplained percentage.

Check before using the estimate

Actual exposure is your input. This does not select surface preparation, paint type or a durability standard. The example values are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Replace them with your measured plan, selected product information and actual quote where relevant.

All dimensions, product properties, prices and specifications in this example are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Use the values from your measured plan, selected product data sheet and supplier quote. This guide does not choose construction specifications or certify safety.
