Order runner length from the covered path.
Why is horizontal stair run shorter than the continuous runner cut?
Use the matching calculator
Use this decision sequence
- Use measured covered paths for each specified tread and riser.
- Add landing path lengths where the same runner continues.
- Enter combined end trimming separately from the measured path.
- Round the complete cut to the supplier increment after combining compatible flights.
Keep the quantities distinct
| Quantity or assumption | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Horizontal plan run | Omits the vertical covered paths. |
| Covered path | Includes specified tread, riser and landing runs. |
| Order increment | Applies to the final combined length, not to every face. |
Worked comparison
Ten 0.3 m tread paths, eleven 0.2 m riser paths and a 1 m landing path total 6.2 m. Adding 0.2 m combined end trimming produces a 6.4 m cut. With a 0.5 m supplier increment, the order becomes 6.5 m. Width and any separately specified seam treatment still need their own checks.
Check before using the estimate
Use the existing covering plan. This calculation does not choose stair geometry, fixing or nosing treatment. The example values are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Replace them with your measured plan, selected product information and actual quote where relevant.
All dimensions, product properties, prices and specifications in this example are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Use the values from your measured plan, selected product data sheet and supplier quote. This guide does not choose construction specifications or certify safety.
