MEASUREMENTS AND PURCHASE DECISIONS

Floor finish comparisons: product data, care and complete pack orders.

How can you compare selected laminate, vinyl, wood and other floor products without a generic durability ranking?

Compare named products rather than category stereotypes

Record the selected product’s approved application, pack coverage, care instructions, stated performance data and quote. A label such as waterproof, wood-look or commercial does not replace the full specification. Laminate, vinyl, cork, bamboo and wood should not be ranked by an unsupported universal lifespan.

Care requirements belong in the comparison

Shaw’s laminate guidance includes controlling grit and avoiding surface scratching; its vinyl guidance describes routine dirt removal and cautions against abrasive or harsh cleaners. Follow the selected product’s care guide rather than transferring a chemical or machine-cleaning procedure across floor types. This article gives no repair or solvent treatment instructions.

Distinguish a surface mark from damage

A scuff observation does not establish whether a coating, joint or substrate is damaged. Stop routine care if the surface changes, lifts, swells or shows a recurring moisture problem, and consult the product supplier or appropriate professional. A quantity calculator cannot diagnose those conditions.

Compare the same measured floor scope

For an illustrative 13 m² allowed requirement, a selected 2 m² pack needs seven packs and a selected 2.5 m² pack needs six. Price those whole packs and supplied accessories separately. Product suitability must already be established before treating their totals as alternatives.

Use the matching calculator

Use this decision sequence

  1. Record the exact item and the scope described below.
  2. Check the cited guidance against your product or local growing conditions.
  3. Measure only the quantities needed for the selected plan.
  4. Keep the supplied assumptions with the purchase estimate.

Keep the quantities distinct

Quantity or assumptionHow to use it
Pack coverageSupplied area per actual pack.
CareFollow the named product instructions.
PerformanceUse documented requirements, not category promises.

Worked comparison

Seven hypothetical 2 m² packs supply 14 m²; six 2.5 m² packs supply 15 m² for the same 13 m² requirement.

Check before using the estimate

No swelling, cracking, lifting, moisture or structural repair is attempted.

All dimensions, product properties, prices and specifications in this example are illustrative arithmetic inputs. Use the values from your measured plan, selected product data sheet and supplier quote. This guide does not choose construction specifications or certify safety.

Sources and product references

References support the factual distinctions and scope described above. Growing guidance is regional and care instructions are product-specific. Worked numerical examples are independent illustrative arithmetic.
