Separate plank starter cuts from end offcuts.
Why does a specified staggered starter affect full-board purchasing?
Use the matching calculator
Use this decision sequence
- Record the finished length of each row.
- Enter a starter length that fits a purchased board.
- Round the remaining row length to full boards.
- Report starter and end offcuts independently unless a separate cut allocation proves reuse.
Keep the quantities distinct
| Quantity or assumption | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Starter cut | Consumes one source board in this model. |
| Remaining row | Uses full source lengths and one possible end cut. |
| Reusable offcut | Needs a compatible later cut position. |
Worked comparison
Three rows each run 4 m and start with a supplied 1 m cut from a 2 m board. Each uses one starter board plus two more boards, or 9 source boards. Starter offcuts total 3 m and end offcuts total 3 m when they are not reused.
Check before using the estimate
Do not subtract all offcut lengths as if they were interchangeable full boards.
